In the morning, I find my spirits spontaneously lift when I gaze on something lovely and colorful the instant my eyes open.
This is my primary inspiration for painting.
I hope my artwork brings you a sense of serenity, too. - R
R. Garriott lives and paints in northwest Denver.
With a lush (if postage-stamp size) garden, the artist finds both a peaceful place to fill the mind's eye with the variety of nature, and a way to clear the mind of daily trepidations. This tranquil stimulation expresses the shared qualities of painting and gardening; digging in with both hands (and not being afraid to get a little messy). After a while the brain will focus only on the task at hand, allowing other lesser thoughts drift away. In the best of gardening and painting, the mind floats free in a state of active contemplation.
