Private gardens and public marketplaces both local and international provide the inspiration for visual interpretation, often including the artist's own garden.

A native of New Mexico, R. Garriott has been a resident of Colorado since 1980, and studied at the University of New Mexico, The Rocky Mountain College of Art & Design, the Art Institute of Colorado, and the Art Students League of Denver.

Professionally, the artist has been exhibiting since 1989, with paintings included in corporate collections including Kaiser Permanente; and private collections in California, Arizona, Texas, New Mexico, Iowa, Missouri, Maine, and Virginia; Quebec, Canada; Puerto Vallarta, Mexico; and across Colorado.
